Oak Flooring
Premium quality character grade oak floorboards, hand crafted and finished to suit British tastes - present and past. The floors you see here grace some of Britain’s most admired modern interior designs and heritage restorations.
The main differences between our floors and those widely available through larger suppliers are in length, production methods and scale of production. These factors have a big impact on the end product.
Naked Floors produces every shipment to order. We finish each floorboard by hand in our Sussex Workshop and use a natural air drying method.
This allows us to use natural, mineral based wood oils which have very low volatile organic compound (VOC) content.
No two floorboards that leave our workshop are ever the same.
By contrast, the vast majority of engineered wood flooring sold in the UK is mass produced and shipped from factories in the Far East in cardboard boxes.
In order to maximise box and shipping space, manufacturers of mass-produced floorboards cut their floorboards to uniform length. Mass produced boards tend to be quite short too.
When laid, mass produced floorboards create a very uniform effect, that’s easy to mistake for laminate.
Mass produced boards are finished with oils that contain much higher levels of volatile organic compounds, which are known to have adverse effects on health.
They’re also dried with a rapid UV light curing process, that shortens the lifespan of the floorboard.
If possible, we recommend making an appointment to visit our East-Sussex studio, where we stock a large range of sample boards and full size planks.
These will give you a much better idea of what a complete floor will look like than the samples we send through the post.
You’ll also get a much better sense of the quality of our floorboards.
As we’ve installed hundreds of floors ourselves over the years, we’ll be able to answer any questions you have about your flooring project too.
If that’s not possible, you can order samples directly from the individual product pages.
